Before dining at Lola's Saturday night Dan takes a photograph of Laura and Michelle, as I take a picture of the threesome.Lola's is one of our favorite restaurants on Martha's Vineyard. More information about Lola's Restaurant on Beach Road near Oak Bluffs can be found at http://www.LolasSouthernSeafood.com.The telephone number of Lola's is 508-693-5007. Lola's is open year round and serves breakfast, brunch, and dinner. Or send them an email at MissLolaMV@lola.com. During our dinner the nightly entertainment was performers Michelle Holland and Danny Wright.
A "monster" has jumped out at Laura and Michelle in order to scare them out of their minds. But it looks like they are more amused that frightened at the "tomcamonster".
Tom C, Dan, Tom P, Ann, Laura, Julia, and Michelle are dressed up to go to Lola's and are photographed by Bill. With Dan's birthday two days away who knows what will happen at Lola's?
At Lola's Julia, Dan, and Tom eat some appetizers. We are seated at a small table when compared to the number of people in our group. And the restaurant is very loud with many people talking. It's an interesting place that adds plenty of atmosphere to dinner. Our waiter is the same man that served us last year.
Tom passes more appetizers to Laura and Michelle. On Lola's web site they are advertising by saying: "On Martha's Vineyard Overlooking Farm Neck Golf Course, President Clinton's Favorite". To see an aerial view of their property go to Lola's aerial view.
Tom, Laura, and Michelle pose for Julia's camera. Thanks, Julia, for the photograph!
Ann and Tom P talk as Julia contemplates a fork full of appetizer. After dinner we give Dan some of his birthday presents. One present is a diver's mask. Another present is a blue and white striped rubber toy rocket ship. I won't comment on the rocket ship, because the people at the table know "why".Soon, one of owners approaches our table with a birthday cake for Dan.
We sing Dan "Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To YOU, Happy Birthday Dear Daaannn, Happy Birthday To You!"In the next picture Dan has put on his birthday hat along with his diving mask. It's DEFINITELY picture-taking time!
Are you enjoying yourself, Dan ? ? ? I believe so! ! ! Later Dan, Bill, Julia, and Laura went to The Harbor View Hotel for coffee and desserts. The Harbor View Hotel is called "The Grand Dame of Island Hotels". It was built in 1891 and is rich in history and lore. The hotel is situated on Starbuck's Neck overlooking the Edgartown Lighthouse and Chappaquiddick Island. Its sprawling veranda invites guests to relax on a rocking chair and enjoy sprawling views of both the sea and the yachts of Edgartown Harbor. The hotel is located at 131 North Water Street, Post Office Box 7, Martha's Vineyard, Edgartown, MA 02539, 508-627-7000. For reservations and information call 800-225-6005. Its web site is located at http://www.harbor-view.com
Dan is showing off our "brand-new" gas grill. When we turned on the "gas" Tom smelled propane fumes and heard a hissing sound from the connection. After reconnecting the hose, and trying it again, we smelled and heard the same problems. Luckily we were able to borrow a gas grill from one of the neighbors and able to successfully cook hamburgers.
I believe everybody is thinking, "I'm full!"In the following picture, the first stop on Tom and Bill's tour is to the Dr. Daniel Fisher House, built in 1840. The home is an excellent example of Federal-style architecture. The interior of the building was totally redecorated in 1992. The Whaling Church (described next) and the Fisher house can be rented for weddings, receptions, meetings, and parties. Call 508-627-4440 for more information. While on the tour we saw a tent being dismantled. We were told that the basic price for the tent and use of the grounds for of a wedding reception is about $2,000.Any takers?
With only Tom, Dan, and Bill left in the house, we decide to make it an afternoon of drinking margarita's and relaxing at the pool. Tom is seen crushing ice on the cement patio at the back of the house ..... while ......
At the same time Dan shakes the ingredients of the margarita's.
Later, after several glasses of these cocktails of tequila and lemon juice, Tom decides to take a dive into a very cold pool. The water in the pool was supposed to be heated but somehow the heating element did not arrive so the water's temperature was kinda cool.
Tom emerges from the icy waters. What was colder, Tom, the margarita or the pool's water?
Tom, Dan, and Bill eat at another one of our favorite restaurants The Sweet Life Cafe.To learn more about The Sweet Life you can email them at SweetLife@vineyard.net. The Sweet Life Cafe is located on Upper Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. Its fax number is 508-693-7888.

Dan is sitting within the outside dining area of The Sweet Life Cafe. The restaurant is a two-story house that has been converted to a restaurant. The next night we ate at a new restaurant for us. The Zapotec Restaurant is located at 14 Kennebec Avenue in Oak Bluffs. Its web site is located at http://www.mvy.com/Zapotec. We had another good meal here. But, Bill did have a problem trying to make the waitress understand when he wanted his Corona beer brought to the table. The waitress had a Russian accent that may have contributed to why she didn't understand his request. Bill asked, "May I have my beer with my meal?" She responded, "Sure!" But she brought the beer before the food arrived. And Bill wanted to drink a "cold" Corona with the meal. Bill should have said, "Please bring my beer when you bring the food." She finally realized what was the intent of the sentence, took the beer back to the refrigerator, and brought it back out when the southwestern meal was ready.
Tom is also sitting at The Sweet Life Cafe. Bill, who is always taking the photographs and is rarely seen in print, enjoyed a very rich chocolate tasting dessert. On our last night on MV we ate at Lambert's Cove Country Inn, located on Lambert's Cove Road, Wests Tisbury. The restaurant is a quiet and secluded 1790 inn set on 7.5 acres of spacious lawns with gardens, an apple orchard, and vine-covered stone walls. The inn contains a large library with fireplace. For more information call the inn at 508-693-2298.
Dan is intently watching our cable TV with that distinctive 70's look. What's on, Dan? Is it a documentary? The evening news? Oprah? CNBC? How about, cartoons?Well, what are you watching, Dan? Oh, it's just static, because the cable was out the entire week.
And with the end of the week almost upon us, Tom is busy performing our household duties in order to leave the house clean and tidy. And in the next picture, while Tom cleans the house, Dan and Flipper clean the pool.
Dan is scheduled to return to Woods Hole from Oak Bluffs on Friday, June 23 at 10:45 am. Bill is scheduled to return to Woods Hole from Vineyard Haven at 1:15 pm. Bill left early with Dan and Tom so we could prepare for Tom's birthday party that night. The vacation is over with for another year.
